Our Story
California native, Amahlia Stevens, founded Vitamin A in 2000 with a mission to bring a modern sensibility to swimwear. Formerly a designer for Yvon Chouinard at Patagonia, Stevens was inspired by the idea that style and sustainability are inseparable. With this vision in mind, she pioneered the concept of sustainable quality swimwear, creating EcoLux, the first luxury swim fabric made from recycled fibers.
Now, with sustainable innovation at our core, Vitamin A is the leading name in the modern swim space; the top brand making eco-friendly swimwear and designer beachwear. Effortless, elevated, and rooted in an authentic Californian ethos, our brand has garnered a cult following, from A-List celebrities and tastemakers alike.
Our Materials
From the beginning, sustainability has been at the core of Vitamin A. We paved the way in our industry, introducing the first recycled swimwear fabric to the market. Since then, we have expanded our offering of sustainable, high-performance swimwear—innovating to add unique recycled textures and a 100% recycled fabric made from ghost fishing nets and recycled spandex.
We maintain our eco-friendly design approach with our beachwear, focusing on natural fibers: prioritizing high-quality flax linen, and recycled and organic cotton.
Our Production Process
Our manufacturing partners maintain the highest standards of workplace ethics and environmental responsibility. Whenever possible, we work with vertically integrated facilities where everything from dyeing to knitting is done in one location to further reduce our carbon footprint. We also partner globally with fair trade artisans to produce our artifacts ethically, providing women with fair-wage jobs in safe working environments.
Our Water Conservation Efforts
We use digital printing for all of our swimwear and beachwear to achieve these patterns. Compared with traditional wet printing, this process uses significantly less water.
Our Packaging
We are as vigilant about our packaging as we are about our garments themselves. Thoughtfully designed hang tags, mailers and packaging – all 100% recycled and recyclable.
