VA: Tell us a bit about yourself and island life:

VS: I’m Vianca Soleil Roquero, interior designer and founder of Unna an eco-resort. Sometimes I do other creative work such as photography and creative direction. Home is in Puro, a small provincial island in Romblon, Philippines. I really love living here. Being close to the ocean, the untouched nature and having the kindest neighbors. It's simple way of life is something I feel so connected to.

VA: What’s your favorite way to get involved with your community?

VS: We try to support where we can. Since moving here, we’ve been able to have two medical missions with the help of my mom and siblings who are doctors. It’s so important to recognize where one can participate as part of a community. Every two months, there’s a get together with the kids where I guide them in making art then we play games and have an outdoor movie night. That has to be my favorite, fondest memories I have on the island so far.

VA: Favorite swim spot in your area?

VS: Right in front of our house. It’s pretty cool that my bed is just about twenty steps from the shore. The property is in a cove and surrounded by mangroves so the sea is always calm.

VA: What are your beach day must haves?

VS: Three things that come to mind, an oversized linen shirt, a big hat and some music!

VA: How do you make sustainability part of your day to day life?

VS: I realized it starts with really making sense of things and re-evaluating one’s actions. It’s the small everyday choices that add up to living more consciously. Where is this need coming from? Can I reuse it or fix it instead of replacing it? How else can I lessen or simplify? It’s asking myself these type of questions to break old patterns and explore better options.
